PAS128 survey with 3D outputs – CCTV Drainage, Utilities and 3D scanning

Survey was spread across multiple ownerships; private land, Council and a College, as well as several public areas in Orpington, London but primarily focused on the Walnuts Shopping Centre  and the surrounding high street. The busy nature of the site meant that health and safety measures for our surveyors and the public were of great importance.

The CCTV drainage survey was  undertaken of the critical sewers within the site area. They were 1500mm diameter sewers that ran from north to south underneath the shopping centre along with a 1600mm diameter trunk foul sewer that cut in from the southeast corner of the site.

To capture the information required by our client, we used a CCTV crawler with an extending cradle combined with confined space entry to produce a  line and level survey of the large sewer. Our surveyors are City & Guilds trained and qualified for working in confined spaces and they ensured the correct positioning of laser scanning and CCTV tracing equipment. The CCTV crawler was driven along the pipes and traced above ground using a Vivax receiver, identifying its position and depths long the route.

Deliverables were issued to the client in the desired 3D outputs compliant with PAS128:2014 specifications.

Our site team commented that ‘the job was interesting due to the sewers’ size and depth, and although it was challenging at times, it was very interesting seeing the architecture of large scale sewer.’
